More than 200 years old, the Maison was originally the luggage makers of aristocrats, in the 19th and 20th centuries, counting the Rockefellers, the Romanovs, the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Karl Lagerfeld and Arthur Conan Doyle as customers.
In fact the brand is as mysterious and enigmatic as any piece of Conan Doyle fiction. Notoriously secretive the Maison’s storied tradition of craftsmanship and customisation refrains from any advertising and refuses to engage in something as common as e-commerce. This mystery is evidently alluring with the instantly recognisable hand painted Chevron pattern seen at many an international cultural elite gathering.
Originally a family owned business spanning five generations, devotee Jean-Michel Signoles now privately owns Goyard. The original Maison Goyard store in Monaco opened in 1900 and inspired the country’s very own signature style, the Monte-Carlo clutch.
Today the Maison offers only the chicest of accessories for the most discerning of clientele... and their pets. The world’s most famous cat, Choupette (Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved Birman) is never without a piece from the brands Le Chic du Chien range.
